Cashew nut exports of Binh Phuoc province still reach 1 billion USD

Although the crop year 2021-2022 has a lot of rain and the rainy season ends late, affecting the flowering and fruiting process, leading to a decrease in output, the cashew nut export turnover still reaches 1 billion USD.

According to Binh Phuoc Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, although, in the 2021-2022 crop year, heavy rain and late ending of the rainy season affect the flowering and fruit setting process, leading to a decrease in yields; however, cashew nut export turnover still reached 1 billion USD, an increase of about 100 million USD compared to the previous crop year, accounting for 1/3 of the total export turnover of the province.

Binh Phuoc Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said that in the crop year 2021-2022, the area of ​​cashew trees in the area is more than 151,000 hectares, accounting for more than 30% of the total area of ​​perennial agricultural crops and accounting for 30.21% of the total area. agricultural land area of ​​the province.

Out of 151,000 hectares, there are more than 147,700 hectares of cashews for harvest, the average yield is 11.54 quintals/ha, the output is 170,500 tons.

Currently, in Binh Phuoc province, there are 1,416 cashew processing facilities. The cashew industry of Binh Phuoc provides jobs for about 50,000 rural workers, including collecting cashews and working in processing facilities.

According to the agricultural sector of Binh Phuoc province, the cause of the decrease in cashew production in the 2021-2022 crop year (in the 2020-2021 crop year reaching 199,400 tons) is because the rainy season ends late, scattered rains have affected the flowering process. fruit set leads to yield, reduced cashew yield.

Currently, Binh Phuoc has about 45,000ha of grafted cashew varieties including PN1, AB 29, AB 0508 varieties. These varieties are being appreciated by cashew trees for many flowers and good fruiting.

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Binh Phuoc province said that for cashew orchards, with basic care and correct varieties, less affected by the weather, it can give an average yield of 2 tons/ha.

Currently, in Binh Phuoc province, there are 39 cashew production cooperative groups with more than 500 members participating in activities in the form of supporting each other in production association. Besides, there are 38 agricultural cooperatives producing cashew with a cultivation area of ​​about 3,000ha; in which, there are 10 cooperatives involved in linking cashew production with enterprises.

Binh Phuoc is currently considered the "cashew capital" of the country, accounting for 50% of the area and more than 50% of the cashew production of the country.

In recent years, the country's cashew export turnover has reached about 3.5 billion USD, leading in the export of agricultural products. Every year, Vietnam needs more than 1 million tons of raw cashew nuts for production and processing. While, the domestic cashew harvest is only about 300,000 tons, the rest still have to import cashew kernels from abroad, especially from West African countries.
